Dual Language Immersion is Expanding to Mark Twain Elementary in Fall 2024

Lynwood Unified is expanding its Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Program to Mark Twain Elementary School, starting with a Transitional Kindergarten class in the 2024-25 school year.

The District will hold an informational community meeting about what the program is and how to enroll their child at 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14, at Mark Twain Elementary School, 12315 Thorson Ave., Lynwood. Families only need to attend one meeting.

DLI is a unique educational model in which students learn to read, write and communicate in English and Spanish. It is also a program Lynwood Unified has been proudly offering at Will Rogers Elementary School since 2014.

Beginning in TK/Kindergarten, native Spanish speakers and native English-speaking students learn together, growing year after year through sixth grade to be biliterate in both languages.

Lynwood Unified's DLI program allows students to develop linguistic and academic competencies in multiple subjects in two languages. The goal is for students to earn the Seal of Biliteracy on their diploma and be better prepared for the 21st century.

The enrollment request form for the new class will open on Dec. 1, 2023.
